About Us |
Script Australia’s founder, Drayton Morley
has been a professional actor for fifteen years.
Graduating from NIDA in 1991, he has been working consistently in professional theatre, film and television. He is also the founder of the script development organisation Parnassus’ Den - Sydney’s unique forum of readings of new Australian performance texts - now in its tenth year of operation. During this time he has developed a reputation of unquestionable integrity when it comes to dealing with Australian writers and supporting the development of their work.
His experience in the Australian performing arts industry has taught him that the common denominator of success in the industry is having a good script The motivation behind his desire to establish Scripts Australia is based in his experiences not only as an actor but also his experience with working closely with many writers.
“Over the ten years that Parnassus’ Den has been operating I have witnessed and been involved in the development of hundreds of scripts, but have lamented that very few scripts get beyond that stage and into production.”
Scripts Australia will be the medium through which Australian writers will be able to access producers of scripts locally and internationally to get their scripts made. They will be able to submit scripts to Scripts Australia for a fee which will be deposited into a Script Vault. Along with their script, writers will also be required to attach a synopsis and breakdown of their script describing not only the story but also the genre, number of characters, estimated budget required and any other relevant information.
Drayton believes that the opportunity exists in the Australian performing arts industry for a company such as Scripts Australia to provide a service unlike any other offered already. Scripts Australia will be a true market place where all tastes, styles and genres of work will be available from the widest cross section of Australian writers from the emerging to the established.
So what else is there to know about the man behind Scripts Australia...........
“I love creative vision - it thrills me when good ideas are transformed into amazing realities. Over the past decade I have shown fierce determination in setting up and administering Parnassus’ Den, providing support to hundreds if not thousands of other performing artists by helping to develop their scripts.”
“Born in Melbourne, I grew up there and moved to Sydney in 1989 to study acting full time for 3 years at NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) graduating in 1991. Subsequently, I spent a year of study at the acclaimed physical theatre school - L’ecole Internationale de Theatre, Jacques Lecoq in Paris as a recipient of a Mike Walsh Fellowship (NIDA graduates) in 1999/2000”
“Having been an actor for many years, I have experienced and observed the lack of empowerment that performing artists experience and am determined to make changes for the better.”
“I love the creative process which I experience as an actor, and am now focused on finding the mean by which I can use my experience and skill in getting scripts made!”
“I continue to be fascinated by the human condition - how people behave and what choices they make to define them as individuals. It is the choices that I have made thus far on my journey in life, the people who I’ve met, loved and had the privilege of getting to know that defines my uniqueness.” Drayton has a burning passion for new Australian scripts. His experience in script development has sharpened his appetite to help turn brilliant scripts into brilliant productions! |
